Mini Lavender Cupcake Bath Melts

Mini Lavender Cupcake Bath Melts

Lavender (derived from the Latin word “lavare” which means “to wash”), is one of the most widely used herbs because of its medicinal properties. It is popularly known to be beneficial to the skin. It has anti-fungal and antiseptic properties that help in the reduction of scars and speeds up healing. It can also be used for the treatment of burns, acne, itchy skin, sunburn, eczema, skin inflammation and dry skin. It is also known to help prevent varicose veins. It has the ability to relieve pain, eliminate nervous tension and enhance blood circulation.

Because of the many benefits of lavender oil to our skin, it is ideally used in bath melts. Lavender bath melts are soothing and calming. Indulge yourself in a lavender bath and enjoy your moisturized, beautiful skin.

Bath melts are tiny solid cubes that stay solid at room temperature, but gently melt into a warm bath, enriching the bath with the natural butters, oils and fragrances in the tub.

To use place one bath melt in your bath and whirl it around with your hand. Alternatively, you can place one bath melt inside a small muslin bag under running hot water.

Tip 1: You definitely want to make small bath melts, as anything over about 30 grams can take forever to melt. Ice cube trays are perfect, you can use a variety of different shapes and turn them into a fun variety packs and give it to your family and friends as a inexpensive but luxurious gifts.

Tip 2: Cocoa butter melts will be harder than the mango or shea butter melts, you can experiment with different butter and essential oils until you find a combination that you really enjoy.

What you need

To Make

  1. Melt the cocoa and shea butters using a double boiler
  2. Remove from heat
  3. Add dried lavender flowers to the mixture.
  4. Stir to combine.
  5. Allow it to cool down a bit.
  6. Add 2 drops of lavender essential oil into each cupcake mold cavity.
  7. Pour the melted mixture into the mold.
  8. Place your mold in the freezer for about 20 minutes before taking them out of the mold.
  9. Drop a melt into your warm bath and enjoy the soothing effect!

These look pretty stored in glass jars and make delightful gifts for anytime of the year. I also only make small batches as finding time for a long soak in the bath is not always as high on the list as it should be.

TIP: I prefer to store them in the fridge or freezer as they will start to melt in warmer temperatures.

Just this past month I made a melt and pour glycerin soap with dried lavender in it. The Lavender turned awful nasty moldy brown. Will this not happen with this recipe.

Hi Jodi, The trick is not to add it while it is to hot, in fact I only heat enough to just melt the ingredients, pour the melts and then add the lavender and have never had a problem. I also store them in the freezer and it keeps them nice and fresh. Cheers

I was just wondering if anyone has done any research on what the shea and cocoa butters do to the plumbing. I would love to make this, but am worried about a build up in the pipes.

I am a huge bath fanatic, in fact i take 4 or 5 a week. I almost always use melts and my drains and plumbing have never had a problem.

Pour baking soda down the drain. Follow with white vinegar. Place a saucer or something over the drain so mixture stays in drain. This will safely clean pipes of oil and hair.

I Always rinse my tub out immediately after my bath using a dash of liquid castille soap with warm water
I personally use the bronner’s ones, but even dawn dish soap would work to cut the grease.

Fantastic to learn about all of the medicinal purposes and uses for lavender! I didn’t know it could be used for acne and varicose veins. This sounds like a great project to help unwind or gifts. Mother’s Day is just around the corner! 🙂

hi – what is the shelf life of the melts? I note that the recipe is similar to body lotion bars.
Do you freeze those you don’t need immediately? If I leave them in the cupboard, how long will they last?
    Thank you

They really need to be kept a bit cool, but I would avoid using taking them on hot days. 🙂
